In-text citations |
If more than one work appears under that author's name in the work cited list, include the source's title in the in-text citation (MLA Handbook 235-236). There are three ways to do this.
1. Including the author's name naturally in the sentence and the title information in parenthesis: Smith explores the idea of extreme sports through multiple narrative voices (Free Falling 91).
In his novel, Free Falling, Smith explores the idea of extreme sports though multiple narrative voices (91).
3. Including the author's name and title information in parenthesis: The characters Jamison and Nguyen have different perspectives on extreme sports, eventually deciding to "agree to disagree" on the subject (Smith, Free Falling 91). |
Works Cited |
When listing more than one work by the same author, write the name in the first entry only. Thereafter, in place of the name, type three hyphens, followed by a period and the title. The three hyphens stand for exactly the same name as in the preceding entry. Works listed under the same name are alphabetized by title (MLA Handbook 221). For example:
Smith, Barry. Free Falling. Cambridge University Press, 2023. ---. How I learned to Sky Dive. Bloomsbury Press, 2018.
