Remember the human

Be aware that people sometimes say things online that they would never consider saying in real life.  So be kind and respectful, pause and think before you type and try to remember the human at the other end of the screen.

The video on this page, 'Is the internet making us meaner?', helps to show how easy it can be to lose our inhibitions in an online environment, and why this isn't always a good thing.

Be appropriate

This may seem obvious but maybe not when in the comfort of your own home! In online meetings and classes, be aware of your clothing and what / who could be in the line of sight.  Find an appropriate workspace, ideally a desk to work from with minimum distractions.

Respect the learning experience

Make the most of the learning opportunity by completing any work that is required ahead of synchronous teaching time.  Respect the online community by muting your microphone when not speaking, raising your digital hand, and using the chat box for relevant questions and comments.
